What You Can See Here Without Logging In?

Commodity Movers has 7 different tabs, including the OI Gainers, OI Losers, Top Volume, Top Value, Price Gainers, Price Losers, and Futures, and they are fully viewable without logging in. Without logging in, the following are available:

  • Every row shows: Name, LTP, Change, Change %, OI, OI Change, OI Change %, and Volume across MCX commodity options and futures contracts.
  • The 15-minute delay applies to every figure across every tab.
  • The Expiry filter allows you to filter the table by contract expiry month.
  • Commodity Movers loads with the OI Gainers view by default.

However, a login is required to view real-time data, add contracts to a watchlist or basket and place trades directly from the table.

What Each Tab Shows?

Commodity Movers on Options Trader displays 7 different tabs, each of which shows unique data like:

OI Gainers and OI Losers - Commodity Option Contracts With the Sharpest OI Increase or Decrease

Displays the specific MCX option contracts experiencing the highest percentage buildup or unwinding of open positions.

Top Volume and Top Value - Ranked by Contracts Traded vs Rupee Turnover

Top Volume ranks contracts by the number of contracts traded. Top Value ranks them by the total rupee turnover generated during the session.

Price Gainers and Price Losers - Contracts With the Sharpest LTP Move

Price Gainers ranks contracts based on the highest percentage increase in LTP, while Price Losers shows contracts with the sharpest decline.

Futures - The Full List of MCX Futures Contracts, Not Just Options

The Futures tab displays MCX futures contracts separately, allowing you to analyse price, open interest, and trading activity in futures contracts without mixing them with option contracts.

Reading the Columns

All 7 Commodity Movers tabs have a similar column layout. Each column represents the following and is utilised to rank contracts within each respective tab:

  • LTP (Last Traded Price): The most recent transaction price for the commodity contract. For options tabs, this is the premium paid by the buyer. For the Futures tab, this is the futures contract price.
  • Change: The absolute move in LTP from the previous session's official closing price for that contract.
  • Change %: The percentage move in LTP from the previous session's close. It is the primary ranking metric in Price Gainers and Price Losers.
  • OI (Open Interest): The total number of active and unsettled contracts.
  • OI Change: The absolute increase or decrease in OI compared with the previous trading session. Positive values mean new positions are being opened; negative means existing positions are being closed.
  • OI Change %: The percentage change in OI from the previous trading session. The primary sorting metric in OI Gainers and OI Losers.
  • Volume: Total contracts traded in the current session. The primary ranking metric in the Top Volume tab.

Why Commodity Option Percentages Can Look Extreme?

Commodity options can sometimes display triple- or quadruple-digit percentage changes. This does not always mean that a large amount of capital has moved into the contract.

Many out-of-the-money or far-from-expiry commodity options trade with low OI and limited volume. When a contract moves from a very small premium to a slightly higher premium, the percentage change can appear unusually large.

For example, a premium moving from ₹0.10 to ₹0.50 represents a 400% increase, even though the absolute movement is only ₹0.40. Therefore, such a move may not represent broad market conviction.

This is why Price Gainers and Price Losers should always be read alongside the OI and Volume columns, instead of being used as a standalone signal.

How to Use the Table Controls

The table controls on Commodity Movers can be used for the following purposes:

Switching Between Tabs and Expiry

The tab row above the table enables you to switch between the 7 metrics. Each tab ranks the commodity contracts by its primary metric. Additionally, with the Expiry filter, you can also select a specific contract month.

Options Contracts vs the Futures Tab

The first six tabs cover commodity options while the Futures tab covers MCX futures contracts only. If you are tracking commodity price direction rather than options positioning, the Futures tab provides you with a view of where futures prices and OI stand across the commodity universe.

What Unlocks After Login

Logging in with your Options Trader account unlocks the following:

  • Real-time data: The 15-minute delay is removed, providing live market feeds.
  • Quick selection: You can click the checkbox to select multiple contracts from any tab to instantly add them to a custom watchlist or a trading basket.
  • Direct order placement: The Buy and Sell buttons activate, allowing you to place orders directly from the table without switching screens.
  • Execute All: Seamlessly execute multiple selected contracts simultaneously using the basket feature.

  • Options and futures together: The Futures tab is present alongside the six options tabs. Comparing futures and options contracts activity for the same commodity offers a more complete picture of where positioning is concentrated.
  • DEXT engine speed: Access to live data after login ensures that the metrics update in real-time.

Things to Know Before You Trade Commodity Movers

Here's what you should know before you trade Commodity Movers:

  • A contract topping the OI Gainers or Price Movers list is an indicator of market activity, not a trading recommendation. Many MCX options contracts are thinly traded, where a small, sudden price move may be reflected by a massive percentage change. Hence, always confirm your signal alongside Volume and Open Interest before risking any capital.
  • MCX commodity markets are also influenced by global cues along with domestic factors. Global commodity prices, currency movements, domestic demand-supply dynamics, and government policy have a significant impact on commodity contracts.
  • Physical delivery is required for certain commodity futures after expiry. Individuals who do not wish to either receive or deliver need to square off their positions before the expiry dates.
